History A large piece of farmland, the Whitfield-Trammel Tract of 97 acres near Belen and Tomé, was deeded to the Valencia Soil and Water Conservation District in 2003. The land was placed into a permanent conservation easement with the USDA National Resource Conservation Services Wetlands Reserve Program. This program is a voluntary program offering landowners the opportunity to protect, restore, and enhance wetlands on their property.
